Whether you are a researcher, run a small project or work in a conservation organisation you will have to at some point in your career lead a team of people or work in close partnership with a peer group or individuals. People and team management are usually learned through experience (often leading to costly mistakes) and through common sense. But it also helps to know about some of the common issues and problems that arise while working in teams and learn about some of the basic concepts of team dynamics and individual and organisational behaviour.
The aim of this workshop is to help students who are working in or leading teams (including volunteers, field assistants etc.) to learn about people and team management.
We intend to introduce you to some concepts like
This will go beyond theory and we will use case studies (including the student’s own experiences) to interact, engage, debate and highlight the relevance of these concepts in real-life scenarios.

Gopakumar has a PGDM from IIM Bangalore (1989-91), with a particular interest – and some education – in Economics. He has worked as an investment professional and has worked with small and medium businesses, emphasising organizational growth, management and team development. Since 2002, as an integral part of Navgati, which works in facilitation and training, he has facilitated programs on Relationship Negotiation, leading & working in effective teams, Systems Thinking in Leadership and Business Finance for non-specialists. Gopa has also co-founded The Nityata Foundation, which works on river ecology, with a team of friends, with a particular emphasis on looking at different options for conservation of rivers and riparian habitat.
