An important part of the four-day programme is the poster sessions and fifteen-minute talks by students on different aspects of conservation science. The strength of SCCS-Bengaluru has been the diversity and high quality of the day-long and short workshops covering different aspects of conservation research and practice. In fact, we facilitate the largest number of workshops amongst the entire SCCS conference cohort across the world. (See ‘Earlier Events’.) Other events include plenary talks by conservation researchers and practitioners, exhibits by conservation NGOs and agencies, and social events designed to allow attendees to make new contacts in their own and related disciplines.
Birds of a Feather sessions bring together participants around focused themes within conservation science and practice. These informal, small-group discussions provide a platform to exchange ideas, reflect on shared challenges, and explore emerging questions in the field.
The sessions encourage open dialogue across career stages, often benefiting from the participation of senior researchers and practitioners who help guide conversations and offer practical insights.
SCCS Bengaluru complements its academic programme with guided nature walks that offer participants an opportunity to engage directly with local biodiversity. Led by experienced naturalists and researchers, these walks connect theory with observation and field-based learning.
They provide a relaxed setting for interaction, ecological reflection and deeper appreciation of the surrounding landscape.
The conference features curated screenings of conservation-themed films and documentaries that highlight pressing environmental issues, field realities and community-driven initiatives.
These screenings are followed by informal discussions, encouraging participants to reflect on the narratives presented and consider the broader social and ecological contexts of conservation work.
